If you want bug squishing, you’re in luck; Developer Offworld Industries has revealed Starship Troopers: Extermination, a new team-based 12-player co-op FPS coming to Steam early next year.
Starship Troopers: Extermination, inspired by Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 cult classic, puts up to three four-player squads on the front line in the midst of an arachnid attack, challenging them to work together to complete objectives, acquire resources, and base to build and defend. , and eventually escape to the extraction zone.
There are three classes to choose from: Attack, Support, and Defense, each with their own weapons, equipment, and perks. In addition, there is a base-building system where players use resources obtained from refineries on the planet to construct walls, towers, ammo stations, and various other facilities in an attempt to gain the upper hand in battle.
All this takes place on a “massive” five-zone map known as Planet Valaka, where players will face steadily escalating swarms of what will initially be five different types of bugs when Steam Early Access begins: Drone, Warrior, Gunner , Plasma Grenadier , and Tiger Elite.
There’s no specific release date for Starship Troopers: Extermination just yet, but it’s set to hit Steam sometime in 2023. Early access is expected to last about a year, with the final release promising “multiple worlds”, plus additional weapons, enemy types, class progression upgrades, community events and encounters.
